Mangaluru special trains will operate on one-way routes from Chennai Egmore to Mangaluru Central and from Mangaluru Central to Rameswaram to ease additional passenger congestion, according to an announcement reported by Prajavani.
Train No. 06036, the Chennai Egmore–Mangaluru Central one-way Express Special, is scheduled to reach Mangaluru Central at 7.45 pm on October 18. The service has been announced to address increased passenger demand on the route.
A second service, Train No. 06142, will run from Mangaluru Central to Rameswaram. It is scheduled to depart from Mangaluru Central at 4.15 am on October 19 and reach Rameswaram at 7.30 pm the same day.
The Mangaluru–Rameswaram special train will stop at Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Payyanur, Kannur, Thalassery, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur Junction, Palakkad Junction, Palakkad Town, Kollengode, Pollachi Junction, Udumalpet, Palani, Oddanchatram, Dindigul Junction, Madurai Junction, Manamadurai Junction, Paramakudi and Ramanathapuram before reaching Rameswaram.
The two special trains will each have 21 coaches. The announced composition includes First Class AC, AC Two-Tier, AC Three-Tier, Sleeper Class and general-category coaches, along with luggage-cum-brake van coaches.
The arrangement gives passengers additional options across a long inter-state corridor linking Tamil Nadu, Kerala and coastal Karnataka. The listed stops include major rail junctions and towns along the route, allowing passengers from several districts to access the special service without travelling first to a larger terminal.
The Chennai Egmore–Mangaluru Central service is scheduled to arrive before the onward Mangaluru–Rameswaram train departs the following morning. However, the announcement identifies the two services as one-way Express Special trains and does not state that they form a guaranteed connecting service for passengers.
The announcement also does not specify a return special train from Rameswaram to Mangaluru Central or provide fare details, booking information or the dates on which reservations will open. Passengers will need to refer to railway booking and operational notices for availability and any changes to the published schedule.
The Southern Railway announcement cited in the report places the services within a wider effort to manage additional passenger congestion. The operational details currently available are the train numbers, scheduled timings, route stops and coach composition. Further information on ticketing and subsequent services was not included in the report.
