Narendrapur Warehouse Fire Contained in an Hour, No Injuries Reported

Fire engines responding to the Narendrapur warehouse fire in South 24 Parganas

A fire broke out at a warehouse in the Narendrapur area of South 24 Parganas late on Friday night, prompting the deployment of four fire engines. The blaze was brought under control in about an hour, and no injuries were reported, according to the available report.

Smoke was seen rising from the warehouse, which was initially described in circulating reports as being linked to a private momo-manufacturing company. Fire personnel reached the site soon after receiving information about the incident and began operations to contain the flames.

The report identified the location as Nazirabad in South 24 Parganas. It said the fire started in an area where combustible materials had been stored, allowing the flames to spread rapidly. No one was present at that part of the premises when the fire broke out.

The incident also led to claims that the warehouse belonged to Wow Momo. Murali Krishnan, the company’s chief executive, denied any connection between the company and the fire. He said Wow Momo no longer had a warehouse at the location and that no incident had taken place at any of the company’s warehouses.

“This incident has no connection with us. We do not have any warehouse there. Fake news is spreading in the market,” Krishnan was quoted as saying. He also said that the company’s operations were continuing normally and described the claim linking the warehouse to Wow Momo as false.

Police said on Saturday morning that the situation was under control. An investigation into the cause of the fire has begun. The available report did not specify the size of the warehouse, the identity of its operator, the extent of property damage or whether the premises had the required fire-safety clearances.

Warehouse fires can pose a particular challenge in built-up areas because stored combustible material can accelerate the spread of flames and produce dense smoke. The response in this case involved four fire engines, but the report did not provide details of the fire department’s assessment of the premises or the materials stored there.

The incident comes amid the routine movement and storage of food-related and other commercial goods across the expanding urban areas of South 24 Parganas. Such facilities can operate close to residential settlements and local roads, making access for emergency vehicles and proper storage practices important to public safety. However, the available information does not establish the warehouse’s proximity to homes or the extent of any wider disruption.

Police are continuing their investigation into the fire. Further details, including the confirmed identity of the warehouse operator, the cause of ignition, the value of damage and any action related to safety compliance, are awaited.
