Alandi Water Cut: Council Reduces Supply by 10% Until 2027

Alandi water cut notice affecting municipal water supply and residents in Alandi, Maharashtra

Alandi Municipal Council has announced a 10% reduction in the city’s municipal water supply and appealed to residents to use drinking water carefully, citing state government directions to manage available water resources in a planned and economical manner until August 31, 2027.

The decision was disclosed by Alandi Municipal Council chief officer Madhav Khandekar and municipal president Prashant Kurhade. The council said it had reviewed the water sources available within its jurisdiction, current storage levels, drinking water demand and the possibility of water scarcity in the coming period before introducing the reduction.

Under the revised arrangement, the council will supply water for five minutes less each day through its regular distribution schedule. The administration said the measure was intended to ensure adequate drinking water availability in the future, prevent wastage and prepare for possible shortages.

The council’s decision follows directions from the state government for economical and planned management of available water stocks until August 31, 2027. The directions were issued in view of the possibility of rainfall uncertainty linked to the potential influence of El Niño, according to the report.

Alandi Municipal Council will also stop issuing new water connections until August 31, 2027. The restriction means that additional demand from new connections will not be added to the municipal network during the period covered by the water-management plan.

The administration has announced strict measures against water wastage. Using drinking water to wash vehicles has been prohibited. If such use is detected, the responsible consumer may face penal action and permanent disconnection of the water connection, the council said.

It will also be mandatory for every tap to have a faucet. If water is found flowing onto roads or elsewhere because of wastage, the council may take action to shut the connection. The measures place responsibility on households and other users to prevent water from being unnecessarily discharged into public spaces.

The council has appealed to all residents of Alandi to follow the rules and cooperate with the administration. The announced measures do not specify changes to the municipal water tariff or identify a separate emergency supply arrangement in the information available. The five-minute daily reduction, the ban on new connections and the anti-wastage restrictions will remain linked to the council’s stated water-management period ending August 31, 2027.
