Mumbai local train services will face major changes on Sunday as Central Railway carries out engineering and maintenance work on the Thane-Kalyan, Harbour and Trans-Harbour sections, with cancellations, diversions and short-term service alterations scheduled through the day.
The block on the fifth and sixth lines between Thane and Kalyan will remain in force from 9 am to 1 pm. During this period, several up and down Mail and Express trains will be diverted onto the fast lines between Thane and Kalyan and are expected to reach their destinations 10 to 15 minutes late, Central Railway said.
The affected up services include the Solapur-CSMT Vande Bharat Express, Pune-CSMT Sinhagad Express, Deccan Queen, Pragati Express, Mangaluru-CSMT Express, Rajgir-LTT Janta Express, Kakinada Port-LTT Express, Banaras-LTT Superfast Express, Howrah-CSMT Mumbai Mail, Hatia-LTT Express, Coimbatore-LTT Express, Nanded-CSMT Rajyarani Express and Chennai-CSMT Superfast Express.
Down services listed as affected are the CSMT-Kolhapur Koyna Express, LTT-Gorakhpur Godan Express, LTT-Jaynagar Express and LTT-Thiruvananthapuram Netravati Express. The block will also affect two MEMU services operating between Vasai Road and Diva.
The 61003 Vasai Road-Diva MEMU, scheduled to leave Vasai Road at 9.50 am, will terminate at Kopar. The 61004 Diva-Vasai Road MEMU, which is scheduled to depart from Diva at 11.30 am, will instead originate from Kopar at 11.45 am. The MEMU service between Diva and Kopar will remain cancelled during the block.
On the Harbour line, services towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus departing from Panvel between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm will remain cancelled. Down Harbour line services from CSMT towards Belapur and Panvel departing between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm will also be cancelled. Central Railway will operate special local trains between CSMT and Vashi during the block period.
The Trans-Harbour line will also see cancellations. Services towards Thane departing from Panvel between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm will remain cancelled, while services towards Panvel departing from Thane between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm will be affected. Trans-Harbour services will continue to operate between Thane and Vashi.
The maintenance schedule will not affect Nerul-Port line services, which will continue to operate. The changes illustrate how planned work on Mumbai’s tightly used rail corridors can affect both suburban passengers and long-distance train operations, particularly where engineering blocks overlap with scheduled services.
Commuters travelling through Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vashi, Diva and Vasai Road will need to account for the revised timings and cancellations during the stated block periods. Central Railway’s announced arrangements include special CSMT-Vashi locals and revised MEMU operations, with the affected services returning to their regular pattern after the maintenance windows end.
