A pipeline leak near Ashish Talav on R C Marg has disrupted water supply across several parts of Chembur, affecting areas in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation wards 147 and 148. The BMC has begun urgent repair work and asked residents to use water sparingly until the damaged pipeline is repaired.
The leak developed on Friday evening in the BMC’s M East ward. The affected localities include New Bharat Nagar, J Plot, Hashu Advani Nagar, MACB Colony, Ayodhya Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Aziz Baug, MHADA buildings and Rockline buildings.
The civic administration said water supply would remain affected in the concerned areas while repair work is under way. It did not specify when normal supply would be restored.
The disruption places additional pressure on households, housing societies and local establishments that depend on regular municipal supply for drinking, cooking, sanitation and other daily needs. Residents in the affected pockets have been asked to conserve available water and cooperate with the repair teams.
The incident highlights the operational impact of failures in Mumbai’s local water-distribution network. A leak at a single point can affect multiple neighbourhoods, with the disruption extending beyond the immediate location of the damaged pipeline because supply is routed through interconnected civic infrastructure.
The BMC said its teams were carrying out the repairs on a war footing. Until the work is completed, residents in the affected parts of Chembur are expected to manage consumption carefully and monitor civic updates for information on restoration of supply.
