Mysuru bus accident scene involving a damaged sleeper bus and lorry on a highway

A Mysuru bus accident near Kirnal Gate on the outskirts of Piriyapatna killed four people and seriously injured more than 35 passengers early on Friday after a private sleeper bus collided with a lorry on the BM Road national highway, according to a report by Prajavani – Mysuru.

The bus, identified as the private Kaveri sleeper coach, was travelling from Bengaluru towards Kerala when the collision occurred near Kirnal Gate. The bus driver died at the scene. The report said all passengers travelling on the bus were from Kerala.

The force of the crash severely damaged the bus and left several passengers trapped inside. Local residents, police personnel and fire and rescue staff reached the site soon after the accident and began the rescue operation. The emergency door of the bus was opened to help evacuate passengers.

Several injured passengers suffered serious injuries to the spine, limbs and hips. Ambulances transported the injured to the Piriyapatna public hospital and Mysuru’s K.R. Hospital. Doctors at the Piriyapatna hospital examined the injured and provided initial treatment. Those requiring further care were later shifted to K.R. Hospital and other hospitals in Mysuru, the report said.

The bus driver’s body also remained partly trapped inside the wrecked vehicle, with one leg stuck in the bus. Rescue personnel carried out an additional operation to remove the body. The report did not identify the other three deceased passengers.

The collision disrupted traffic on the highway, with vehicles forming long queues along the road. A crane and JCB equipment were used to move the damaged bus and lorry to the roadside, after which traffic movement was restored.

Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi visited the crash site and inspected the accident scene. The report did not provide details about the cause of the collision, the identities of the deceased or the progress of any police investigation.
