Operation Kavach Puts 3,000 Hyderabad Police Personnel on Alert

Operation Kavach Hyderabad police conducting late-night vehicle checks on a city road

Hyderabad Police deployed around 3,000 personnel in more than 100 teams across the city under Operation Kavach, carrying out vehicle checks, document verification and searches for prohibited substances and weapons on October 16.

The operation focused on preventing crime and identifying potential threats, with officers inspecting suspicious vehicles and individuals. Police also checked vehicles without number plates, those carrying unauthorised VIP stickers and those with illegal modifications.

In the Charminar Zone, the checks were conducted between 1 am and 3 am across the limits of 15 police stations. DCP Kiran Khare said the initiative was part of the zone’s continuing efforts to strengthen public safety.

The police action also forms part of wider enforcement against late-night commercial activity. Officers have been conducting Operation Chabutra, under which people found loitering in public places late at night are counselled. Nearly 4,000 to 5,000 people have reportedly received counselling in recent days, according to the report.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar participated in inspections in Chandrayangutta, Mailardevpally, Shamshabad, Attapur and Rajendranagar. The areas covered by the commissioner include major movement corridors and neighbourhoods on the city’s southern and southwestern edges.

The checks require motorists and other residents to produce vehicle documents and may involve searches where officers identify suspicious circumstances. The police have specifically highlighted missing number plates, unauthorised VIP stickers and illegal vehicle modifications as enforcement concerns.

Police said the operation is intended to detect prohibited substances and weapons while strengthening surveillance across the city. The deployment also places late-night public activity and road movement under closer scrutiny, particularly in areas covered by the overnight checks.

The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious people, vehicles or objects through the emergency helpline 112. The police did not provide a stated end date for Operation Kavach in the information available.
