Borewell Rescue Underway in Phalodi After Boy Falls 640 Feet

Borewell rescue operation in Phalodi with SDRF personnel working beside a farm shaft

A rescue operation was underway in Rajasthan’s Phalodi district after nine-year-old Bhomaram Bheel fell into a borewell at an agricultural farm in Pooniyon Ki Dhani hamlet on Thursday afternoon. The child was believed to be trapped at a depth of around 640 feet inside the nearly 1,050-foot shaft.

The accident occurred under Nosar Gram Panchayat in the Lohawat Panchayat Samiti area when repair work was being carried out on the borewell. The borewell had stopped functioning, and the family had arranged machinery to fix it. A boring machine was operating at the site at about 12.30 pm when Bhomaram slipped into the shaft.

According to an administration official present at the site, Bhomaram’s father, Pacharam, was removing the motor when the incident occurred. The official said the father was near the boy but could not reach him before he slipped further down the narrow borewell.

Administrative officials, police personnel and a State Disaster Response Force team reached the farm and began rescue efforts. Rescuers lowered a camera into the borewell to identify the child’s location. The operation detected movement at approximately 640 feet, officials said.

Teams were also working to supply oxygen into the borewell to reduce the risk of suffocation. The depth and narrowness of the shaft created significant operational challenges for the rescuers, who continued working at the site until late Thursday evening, according to the report.

The incident drew villagers to the farm as news of the accident spread. Bhomaram is the only son of his parents, and his family remained at the site as the rescue operation continued. Police, the SDRF and local administration officials were coordinating the effort, with the child’s location and oxygen supply remaining central to the ongoing operation.
