Ranchi’s voter list revision will now include booth-wise lists of electors whose documentation remains pending after two notice hearings, with the names scheduled to be displayed at polling stations in the first week of November. The move is intended to help voters complete their submissions before Jharkhand’s final electoral roll is published on November 30.
Chief electoral officer K Ravi Kumar directed electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers to prepare the lists by October 22 while reviewing the Special Intensive Revision process, according to a report by the Times of India. The lists will cover electors whose cases remain pending despite having received two notices.
The names will also be shared with booth-level agent-2 representatives of recognised political parties during their fifth meeting with booth-level officers in the first week of November. Kumar said the exercise would help voters complete pending documentation with assistance from political party representatives and election officials, while supporting transparency in the revision process.
The arrangement places the pending-document cases at the polling-station level, giving voters and party representatives a location-specific reference ahead of the final roll. The source report did not specify the total number of electors whose names will appear on the lists or the number of polling stations involved.
Kumar also directed booth-level officers to maintain separate registers of eligible citizens, particularly young people and first-time voters, who have applied through Form 6 but are unable to provide supporting documents. Officials have been asked to contact these applicants and facilitate submission of the required papers.
Form 6 is used for applications for inclusion in the electoral roll, while Form 8 is used for correction requests, according to the procedures referred to in the report. The CEO instructed officials to accelerate the digitisation of Form 6 applications, Form 8 correction requests and speaking orders issued after notice hearings on the Election Commission’s ECINET platform.
The instructions also address the removal of names linked to multiple enrolments. Kumar clarified that an elector’s name can be deleted because of enrolment in another state or assembly constituency only after the prescribed procedure has been followed. The report did not detail the number of cases under review for possible deletion.
The steps come as election officials work towards the final electoral roll under Jharkhand’s extended Special Intensive Revision schedule. The immediate milestones are the October 22 deadline for preparing booth-wise lists, their display at polling stations in the first week of November, and publication of the final roll on November 30.
