Delhi tax revenue increased 3.5 per cent during the first half of the current financial year, with the government collecting Rs 27,030.38 crore up to September, according to official data reported by Millennium Post. Total tax revenue stood at Rs 32,547.70 crore as on October 9, while the government has set a target of Rs 74,000 crore for 2026-27.
The figures indicate higher collections across several major revenue categories, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST), stamps and registration fees, value added tax (VAT), excise and motor vehicle tax. The data was cited by Delhi government officials on Thursday.
GST remained the largest contributor to the government’s tax receipts. Collections from the category reached Rs 19,023.42 crore up to September, compared with Rs 18,710.89 crore during the corresponding period of the preceding financial year.
Excise tax revenue rose 6 per cent to Rs 3,152.85 crore in the first two quarters of the ongoing financial year, from Rs 2,947.53 crore during the same period of 2025-26. Stamps and registration fees contributed Rs 4,482.50 crore, while VAT collections stood at Rs 3,826.43 crore. Motor vehicle tax generated Rs 1,613.76 crore.
A senior Delhi government officer attributed the increase to streamlined policies and targeted action. “The collections were higher as compared to the first half of last year in almost all categories, including VAT, stamps and registration, and motor vehicles tax, among others,” the officer said, according to the report.
The official figures show that Delhi’s tax revenue up to September was higher than the Rs 26,128.48 crore recorded up to September 2025. The increase gives the government a stronger revenue position during the year, although the reported collections remain below the full-year budget estimate of Rs 74,000 crore for 2026-27.
The government’s non-tax revenue stood at Rs 778.37 crore up to September, against a budget estimate of Rs 900 crore for the financial year. Grants in aid received during the period totalled Rs 1,000.35 crore, compared with the full-year budget estimate of Rs 7,092.07 crore.
The grants included Rs 517.35 crore under Centrally Sponsored Schemes and Rs 483 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs. These transfers form part of the receipts available to the Delhi government alongside its own tax and non-tax collections.
Total capital receipts up to September stood at Rs 5,578.12 crore, according to the official data. The figures provide the latest reported snapshot of Delhi’s fiscal position, with further collections and receipts expected to determine progress towards the government’s annual budget estimates.
