Dhanbad Municipal Corporation will deploy sanitation workers in two shifts across all 55 wards during the festive season, beginning with Durga Puja, to ensure faster waste removal and cleaner public spaces, municipal commissioner Ashish Gangwar said on Wednesday.
The civic body’s plan will focus on areas expected to see large gatherings, including puja pandals, roads, crowded stretches and other public places. Gangwar said a special action plan had been prepared to maintain sanitation during the celebrations and prevent waste from accumulating on city streets.
“ A special action plan had been prepared for regular cleaning around puja pandals, along roads and in crowded areas. Ponds and other water bodies will also be cleaned as part of the festive arrangements,” Gangwar said at the closing ceremony of the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign at the IIT (ISM) campus in Dhanbad.
The two-shift arrangement is intended to allow waste generated during public celebrations to be collected and removed without delay. The municipal corporation said the measure would help residents and visitors avoid unhygienic conditions as footfall increases at public venues during the festive period.
The sanitation plan includes regular cleaning around puja pandals and along roads, as well as operations near ponds and other water bodies. These locations are expected to require additional attention because of increased public activity and the volume of waste generated during community celebrations.
Gangwar said the civic body would provide adequate manpower and infrastructure to strengthen cleaning operations. The statement did not specify the number of workers assigned to each shift, the shift timings, the additional equipment to be deployed or the total cost of the arrangements.
The announcement was made during an event where sanitation workers, cleanliness coordinators, volunteers and other members who had contributed to cleanliness efforts at the IIT (ISM) campus were honoured. The civic commissioner’s remarks linked the festive sanitation plan to the broader cleanliness campaign conducted during Swachhata Hi Seva 2026.
The corporation’s immediate operational challenge will be to maintain collection and removal schedules across 55 wards while concentrating resources around pandals, roads, crowded areas and water bodies. The municipal commissioner said the two-shift system and additional manpower and infrastructure would support cleaning operations through the festive season.
