Delhi Metro Adds 3:30 AM Services for Half Marathon Runners

Delhi Metro train service for Delhi Half Marathon runners near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium

Delhi Metro will begin services at 3:30 am on Sunday, October 18, on four lines to help participants reach Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium for the Delhi Half Marathon, with free return travel available to registered runners using special QR-code wristbands.

The early services will operate on the Red, Yellow, Blue and Violet lines. The Red Line will run between Rithala and Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda, while the Yellow Line will connect Samaypur Badli with Millennium City Centre Gurugram. On the Blue Line, trains will operate between Dwarka Sector 21 and Noida Electronic City or Vaishali. The Violet Line will run between Kashmere Gate and Raja Nahar Singh.

According to the details reported by Jagran, trains on these four corridors will operate every 15 minutes from 3:30 am to 4:15 am. The frequency will change to every 20 minutes between 4:15 am and 6 am. From 6 am onwards, services on the four lines will follow the regular Sunday timetable.

The early start is limited to the four designated corridors. All other Delhi Metro lines will begin services according to their normal Sunday schedules. This means that participants whose journeys involve other corridors may need to plan their interchange and onward travel around the regular start time of those lines.

To assist runners and guide them through the network, event organisers will deploy volunteers at selected stations, including Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jor Bagh, Janpath and Jangpura. These stations are among the key access points for reaching the event venue and are expected to handle participants travelling during the early morning window.

Organisers have issued QR tickets for Delhi Half Marathon 2026 participants to use for travel to and from the venue. The metro journey will be free for runners, but they have been advised to collect special QR-code wristbands from the event organisers. The wristbands will be used to access the free travel arrangement.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is served by the Violet Line, while the listed stations on other corridors provide access for participants approaching from different parts of Delhi-NCR. The revised schedule is intended to provide an early public transport option before the event begins, when regular Sunday metro operations would otherwise not yet be available on several routes.

Participants travelling on October 18 will need to check their route, identify the relevant interchange stations and collect the special wristband before boarding. The four-line early service will run until 6 am, after which the regular Sunday timetable will apply.
