Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled industrial projects worth more than ₹39,000 crore at Kalinganagar in Jajpur district on Wednesday, positioning the industrial hub as a major centre of investment and manufacturing activity in the state.
The chief minister inaugurated projects valued at ₹31,607 crore and laid foundation stones for additional projects worth ₹7,776 crore. The announcements together represent the latest investment push at Kalinganagar, one of Odisha’s established industrial regions.
Majhi said the investments reflected investor confidence in Odisha and demonstrated the state’s emergence as a major industrial destination. The projects were presented as part of the state government’s broader development agenda, with the chief minister linking the investment announcements to the development priorities of the BJP governments at the Centre and in Odisha.
The event also featured an extended political exchange over the government’s development claims. Majhi criticised unnamed opposition parties and accused them of attempting to obstruct development through protests and political campaigns. He said the government was focused on attracting investment and accelerating Odisha’s growth, while opposition parties were preoccupied with political issues.
The chief minister’s remarks came as the INDIA bloc and the Biju Janata Dal have been protesting on issues including the Special Intensive Revision. Majhi did not identify a particular opposition party while making his criticism, but said the opposition lacked a development vision and was focused on protests and political activity.
In Bhubaneswar, BJD leader and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik responded at a party event by saying development had been the principal agenda during the BJD government’s tenure. Patnaik alleged that people across social groups were facing hardship under the present government, naming farmers, women, senior citizens, poor households and the middle class among those affected.
Patnaik also criticised the state government’s performance and called on BJD workers to remain connected with the public and highlight issues affecting them. Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das said opposition parties were fighting to defend democracy and that the campaign would intensify.
The Kalinganagar announcements place investment mobilisation at the centre of the state government’s development narrative. The immediate next steps for the projects will include implementation following the inaugurations and foundation-stone ceremonies, although the report did not specify the individual project names, sectors, employment projections, construction schedules or commissioning timelines.
