Tamil Nadu special trains will operate on key routes during the Ayudha Puja holiday period, with Southern Railway announcing additional services between Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Sengottai and Kollam. The services are intended to provide more travel options during the consecutive-holiday rush.
Four special services have been announced between Chennai Central and Coimbatore’s Podanur station. A train will leave Chennai Central at 11.55 pm on October 16, followed by another service at the same time on October 18. In the return direction, trains will leave Podanur for Chennai Central at 2 pm on October 17 and at 6.15 pm on October 20.
Southern Railway has also scheduled special services between Tambaram and Tirunelveli via Erode. The Tambaram–Tirunelveli train will leave at 4 pm on October 16, while the return service from Tirunelveli to Tambaram will depart at 11.40 pm on October 20.
For passengers travelling towards southern Tamil Nadu, a special train will run from Tambaram to Sengottai at 11.55 pm on October 19. The return service from Sengottai to Tambaram is scheduled to leave at 3 pm on October 20.
Another service will connect Chennai Central with Kollam. The Chennai Central–Kollam train will depart at 11.50 pm on October 19, while the Kollam–Chennai Central service will leave Kollam at 6.45 pm on October 20.
The announcement covers routes linking Chennai with major destinations in western and southern Tamil Nadu, as well as Kollam in Kerala. The additional services are significant for passengers whose travel plans coincide with the Ayudha Puja holiday period, when demand for intercity transport typically rises. The railway announcement, however, does not specify the number of coaches, fare structure, stopping pattern, reservation opening dates or whether the services will operate as fully reserved trains.
Passengers will need to check the final timetable, availability and booking conditions through official railway channels before planning their journeys. The announced services are limited to the dates and directions specified by Southern Railway, with departures scheduled between October 16 and October 20.
