Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) reported a more than two-fold rise in consolidated net profit to ₹820.94 crore for the September quarter, supported by higher income from its power and industry businesses, according to an exchange filing cited by PTI.
The state-owned engineering and manufacturing company had recorded a consolidated net profit of ₹374.89 crore in the corresponding quarter of the preceding financial year. The latest result places BHEL among the public-sector companies reporting a substantial year-on-year improvement in quarterly earnings.
BHEL’s total income rose 24 per cent to ₹9,553.01 crore in the July-September quarter, compared with ₹7,686.11 crore in the year-ago period. The increase came as revenue grew across both of the business verticals identified in the filing: power and industry.
Revenue from the power business stood at ₹6,637.90 crore during the quarter, up from ₹5,675.64 crore in the September quarter of the previous financial year. The industry business generated ₹2,662.45 crore, compared with ₹1,836.16 crore a year earlier.
BHEL is India’s largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in the energy and infrastructure sector. Its performance is therefore closely linked to activity in power-related manufacturing and industrial infrastructure, although the filing details cited in the report do not provide a project-wise or order-book breakdown for the quarter.
The company’s expenses increased to ₹8,482.40 crore in the quarter from ₹7,201.54 crore in the corresponding period a year earlier. Despite the higher expense base, the rise in total income was accompanied by a significantly stronger consolidated profit.
The results provide a quarterly measure of the company’s performance across its power and industry operations. However, the information available in the exchange filing summary does not specify the contribution of individual projects, the status of new orders, or the geographic distribution of the revenue reported during the quarter.
BHEL’s quarterly numbers will be read against the wider requirements of India’s energy and infrastructure sectors, where engineering and manufacturing companies supply equipment and services for large industrial and power-related activities. The filing, as reported by PTI, does not state whether the improvement reflects changes in order execution, pricing, operating efficiency or project completion schedules.
The company disclosed the September-quarter results through an exchange filing on Wednesday. Further details on its order book, future project pipeline and operational outlook would depend on the company’s full results disclosure and subsequent regulatory filings.
