Delhi tap water connections will be provided to 216 households in Valmiki Camp, Begumpur, after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi inaugurated the Har Ghar Nal Yojana in the Malviya Nagar area on Monday.
Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi inaugurated the initiative along with Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay. The programme is intended to provide household tap connections to residents and improve access to drinking water.
The inauguration took place in Valmiki Camp, a settlement in Begumpur. According to the report, 216 households are set to receive connections under the initiative. The announcement did not specify the installation schedule for individual homes or when all the connections are expected to become operational.
Wahi said access to clean and conveniently available drinking water was essential to improving residents’ quality of life. She also said the scheme would ease daily water access for households and that efforts were under way to extend basic amenities across Delhi.
The initiative brings the municipal corporation and the Delhi Jal Board into the same service-delivery effort. While the MCD inaugurated the programme, the Delhi Jal Board’s vice-chairman attended the launch, indicating coordination between the civic body and the city’s water agency for extending household-level water access.
For residents of Valmiki Camp, the planned connections are expected to reduce the need to obtain drinking water from sources outside the home. The report, however, does not provide details about existing supply arrangements in the settlement, the source of water for the new connections, connection charges, or the standards that will be used to assess service reliability.
Councillor Leena Kumari also attended the inauguration. The next operational milestone will be the installation and activation of the promised connections for the 216 households. Further details on the implementation timeline and supply arrangements were not announced in the report.
