Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood inaugurated a Rs 33.27-crore government school campus in Dwarka’s Sector 16B and announced infrastructure upgrades worth around Rs 700 crore across technical and higher education institutions.
The Government Girls and Co-ed Senior Secondary School campus, spread across 8,000 square metres, has capacity for 2,000 students. It includes 75 classrooms, 12 smart classrooms, an information and communication technology laboratory with 40 computers, language laboratories and specialised science laboratories.
The campus also has ramps and lifts for children with special needs, along with rainwater harvesting systems. The infrastructure is designed to expand access to government schooling in a rapidly developing part of southwest Delhi, while adding facilities intended to support digital and science-based learning.
Sood said the Delhi government was expanding educational infrastructure in West Delhi and rural areas that he described as having faced neglect. His remarks also included criticism of the previous AAP administration’s education model, which he characterised as a “PR gimmick”. He questioned whether high-profile visits to government schools under the previous regime had produced documented institutional learning or the adoption of educational best practices.
The wider infrastructure announcement covers technical and higher education. The minister said industrial training institutes in Narela, Hari Nagar and Shahdara would be upgraded into Centres of Excellence. The government is also expected to launch the Delhi Skill Mission, aimed at connecting vocational training with job placements.
At Netaji Subhas University of Technology, the proposed works include a new polytechnic building, advanced manufacturing facilities, faculty offices and a girls’ hostel. The announcement did not specify a completion timeline or the proposed funding schedule for each component.
The government also referred to a proposed Rs 400-crore Startup Policy intended to support 10,000 startups and generate four lakh jobs. The announcement linked the policy to the broader effort to strengthen technical education, skills and employment pathways, although details of its implementation framework were not provided.
Under the Vidya Vahini Yojana, more than 25,000 free bicycles have been distributed to female students, while digital learning infrastructure is being expanded across government schools. The measures place school access, technical training and higher education capacity within the same infrastructure programme.
The Dwarka campus is the clearest immediate deliverable in the announcement. The next milestones are the proposed upgrades at the three ITIs, the launch of the Delhi Skill Mission and the implementation of the higher education and startup investments outlined by the government.
