Mysuru Dasara Sports Festival Brings 4,515 Athletes to 10 Venues

Mysuru’s Dasara sports festival will bring 4,515 athletes to 10 venues across the city from October 11 to 14, with 28 sporting disciplines, adventure events and traditional wrestling forming part of this year’s programme.

The CM Cup Dasara Sports Meet will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on the evening of October 11. More than 700 staff members are expected to support the event, while most participating athletes have already arrived in Mysuru, according to the event information published by Prajavani.

The main venue will be the Chamundi Vihar Stadium, which will host archery, athletics, basketball, boxing, fencing, gymnastics, handball, hockey, kho-kho, netball, swimming, throwball, volleyball and wushu. The programme will also use venues across the city, including the Manasagangotri Indoor Hall, University of Mysore Sports Pavilion, Maharaja Indoor Stadium, Mysuru Tennis Club, Maharshi Public School, Yuvaraja Indoor Stadium, Maharaja College Centenary Hall and the Chamundi Shooting Academy in Vijayanagar.

Badminton will be held at the Manasagangotri Indoor Hall, while ball badminton, football, kabaddi and yoga are scheduled at the University of Mysore Sports Pavilion. Judo and karate will take place at the Maharaja Indoor Stadium, lawn tennis at the Mysuru Tennis Club, table tennis at Maharshi Public School and taekwondo at the Yuvaraja Indoor Stadium. Weightlifting is scheduled at Maharaja College Centenary Hall, and shooting at the Chamundi Shooting Academy.

The festival will extend beyond conventional indoor and stadium sports. The General Thimayya National Academy of Adventure will conduct kayaking at the KRS backwaters on October 12 and rafting competitions on October 13. A stair-climbing competition on Chamundi Hill is scheduled for 6 am on October 14.

Two recognised athletes from Mysuru have been invited as guests of honour: Commonwealth bronze medallist para-athlete K.S. Shilpa and Asian Games gold medallist golfer Pranavi Urs. Their participation is intended to connect the Dasara sports programme with the city’s established sporting achievements.

Traditional wrestling will run separately from October 11 to 17 at the D. Devaraj Urs Multipurpose Stadium on Dodda Kere Maidan. The chief minister is scheduled to inaugurate the wrestling programme at 4 pm on October 11. From October 12 to 17, point wrestling bouts will be held daily from 8 am to 4 pm, followed by traditional wrestling matches from 4 pm to 9.30 pm.

The traditional wrestling programme is expected to feature 250 pairs from different districts of Karnataka. Wrestlers from Karnataka and other states will also compete in the title bouts. The schedule places events at venues spread across Mysuru, requiring coordination between stadiums, educational campuses, sports clubs and outdoor locations during the Dasara period.

The sports festival and wrestling programme will form part of Mysuru’s wider Dasara celebrations, with the published schedule running through October 17 for wrestling and through October 14 for the main multi-sport meet.
