A road connecting Kalihundi to the Addahalli bridge in Saraguru is set for asphalting under a ₹3 crore project after remaining pending for nearly a decade, MLA Anil Chikkamadu said while laying the foundation stone for the work in Kalihundi village.
The road falls within the limits of the K. Belathur gram panchayat and runs along the embankment of the Kabini right-bank canal, serving villages located along the canal system. Chikkamadu said the work would be completed soon, according to a report by Prajavani – Mysuru.
The foundation ceremony also covered construction of a concrete road in the village. The announcement places the road project within a wider package of local works for which more than ₹6.5 crore has been allocated, according to the MLA’s statement.
The funds listed for Kalihundi and nearby areas include ₹1 crore under the Village Development Scheme and another ₹1 crore for asphalting the road from Ibjalu village to Kalihundi. A further ₹40 lakh has been allocated for the Model Village programme, while ₹45 lakh has been earmarked for construction of the Chakkur–Kalihundi road.
The package also includes ₹20 lakh for a minor bridge and ₹20 lakh for a road from the Government Higher Primary School to the Keerthi Narayana Swamy Temple. These works cover separate stretches and facilities, but together represent the scale of the development funding announced for the village and surrounding settlements.
The delayed Kalihundi–Addahalli road is significant for local access because it links settlements along the Kabini canal embankment to the bridge and nearby road network. The source report does not provide the length of the road, the contractor, the tender value beyond the stated allocation, or a specific completion date.
Chikkamadu also said grants would be provided for development of the Vokkaliga community hall and the Keerthi Narayana Swamy Temple. The announcement therefore combines transport infrastructure with community and institutional works in the gram panchayat area.
Officials present at the ceremony included Tahsildar Mohankumari, Executive Officer Premkumar, engineers Usha, Ramesh and Govindanayak, and other local administrative and public works representatives. Police Sub-Inspector R. Kiran and elected representatives, panchayat officials and local leaders also attended.
The next stated step is the execution and completion of the road and concrete-road works. No detailed construction schedule or traffic-management plan was provided in the report.
