Mysuru Dasara: MCC Cleans ORR, Moves Against Illegal Dumping

Mysuru City Corporation has launched a large-scale cleanliness drive along the Outer Ring Road ahead of the Dasara festivities, removing dumped waste and directing urban local bodies to prevent further littering on the city’s outskirts.

The second phase of the operation was carried out under the “Swachha Mysuru-Sundara Mysuru” initiative in association with neighbouring urban local bodies. The drive began at 6.30am and covered several stretches of the Outer Ring Road, according to a report by the Times of India – Mysuru.

MCC Commissioner MK Savitha led the operation, during which civic officials and pourakarmikas cleared plastic waste, construction debris, garbage and other discarded materials from roadside areas. The corporation said the effort was intended to improve the appearance of the city’s outskirts and maintain a cleaner environment during Dasara.

Mysuru Dasara attracts lakhs of visitors to the city every year, placing additional pressure on public spaces and civic services. The Outer Ring Road is among the main corridors around the city, and the waste accumulation along its edges had affected the appearance of the approach routes.

Savitha directed officials to take steps to prevent illegal dumping along the road and ensure that cleanliness is maintained after the drive. She also instructed the urban local bodies concerned to coordinate their work so that the road and its surroundings remain clean.

Appealing to residents, Savitha asked the public not to dump garbage on roadsides or litter public spaces. She said cooperation from citizens would be necessary to prevent waste from accumulating again after the cleaning operation.

The commissioner said the MCC was preparing to receive the large influx of tourists expected during Dasara and wanted the city to present a clean and appealing appearance. She also stressed that sustained community participation was important to preserve the results of civic cleanliness drives.

Urban Development Cell project director Roopa BR and other officials participated in the operation. The MCC’s next steps, as outlined during the drive, are to coordinate with the concerned urban local bodies and continue efforts to prevent roadside dumping along the Outer Ring Road.
