Daund’s municipal water supply is facing a potential shortage, with the reservoir serving the Maharashtra town holding enough water for only two to two-and-a-half months, according to a report by Lokmat – Pune. Municipal president Durgadevi Jagdale and deputy president Chhaya Thorat inspected the reservoir and a water storage tank as officials began planning measures to stretch the available supply.
The municipal leadership has asked officials to manage the existing stock carefully and has begun discussions with the Irrigation Department to secure the next water release at the earliest. The review comes as drought conditions are being reported across the region and ahead of a period in which demand and supply will need to be closely managed.
Officials have been instructed to plan distribution so that the available water lasts for the next two to two-and-a-half months. The municipality has also directed staff to identify leaks in the water-supply network and repair them immediately. Reducing losses from pipelines is being treated as one of the measures required to protect the town’s remaining reserve.
The municipality said discussions had taken place with Irrigation Department officials regarding an early release of the next water rotation. The department has assured cooperation for the measures being planned to address the possible shortage, according to the report.
The municipal administration has also warned construction businesses against wasting water. If water is found to be wasted for construction activity, the concerned construction work may be stopped, the municipality said. Builders have been asked to ensure that water used at their sites is not lost unnecessarily.
Residents have been urged to use water carefully and avoid wastage. The municipality has also appealed to residents to seek water tankers where necessary. The administration said the immediate focus would be on managing the available stock, preventing pipeline losses and following up with the Irrigation Department for the next release.
Jagdale said Daund’s water issue was currently the town’s most important concern. She said the municipality was working simultaneously on water planning, preventing leakage in supply lines and securing the next water rotation in an effort to provide relief to residents. Thorat separately appealed to residents and construction businesses to avoid wasting water while the town prepares for a possible shortage.
