Pune-Nagpur Special Trains Add 4 Services for Ambedkar Event

Pune-Nagpur special trains at a crowded railway platform with passengers travelling to Nagpur.

Central Railway will run four additional unreserved services between Pune and Nagpur on October 19, 20, 21 and 22 to handle the expected passenger rush for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, giving travellers more rail options during one of the busiest annual movements between the two cities.

The Pune-Nagpur special trains will operate as two services in each direction. Train 01215 will depart from Pune at 2.50 pm on October 19 and 21, reaching Nagpur at 7.30 am the following day. The return service, train 01216, will leave Nagpur at 11 pm on October 20 and 22 and arrive in Pune at 4.20 pm the next day.

Dhammachakra Pravartan Din commemorates Dr B R Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism along with around six lakh followers. The occasion draws large numbers of visitors to Nagpur, creating a significant seasonal demand for rail travel from Pune and other parts of Maharashtra. The additional services are intended to provide capacity during the event period.

Each train will have 18 coaches. The composition will include 16 general second-class or sleeper-class coaches operated on an unreserved basis, along with two guard-cum-luggage vans. All passenger coaches on both services will be available for unreserved travel, meaning passengers will not receive reserved berth or seat allocations on these trains.

The trains will stop at Daund Chord Line, Ahilyanagar, Belapur, Kopargaon, Ankai, Manmad, Chalisgaon, Pachora, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Malkapur, Shegaon, Akola, Murtizapur, Badnera, Dhamangaon, Pulgaon, Wardha and Ajni before reaching their destinations. The long list of stops will make the services usable not only for passengers travelling between Pune and Nagpur but also for people boarding from towns along the route.

Passengers can purchase tickets through the UTS mobile application or at railway booking counters. Central Railway will charge the regular fares applicable to Superfast, Mail and Express trains. Travellers have been advised to check the latest schedule and ticketing details before beginning their journey, particularly because the services are being operated for specific dates and will run on an unreserved basis.

The announcement places the additional trains within a wider pattern of transport planning around large public gatherings: demand is concentrated over a short period, and the operational response depends on adding temporary capacity along an existing rail corridor. For passengers, the immediate priority will be confirming the departure date, boarding station, fare and availability before travelling. The four services are scheduled to operate on October 19, 20, 21 and 22.
