Kolkata Metro will run extended services on its Blue and Green lines until 4 am during the busiest Durga Puja nights, giving pandal hoppers a late-night public transport option from Saptami to Navami.
According to the Kolkata Metro office, services on both lines will operate from 1 pm to 4 am the following morning from October 17 to October 20. These dates cover Saptami, Ashtami, Navami and the early hours following Navami, when visitor movement across the city is expected to remain high.
The Blue Line will also run at a peak-hour frequency of six minutes during the extended-service period. The line connects key parts of the city and carries a major share of the Kolkata Metro network’s passengers. The Green Line will also operate through the night during the same period.
On Panchami and Shashthi, falling on October 15 and 16, the Blue and Green lines will operate from 6 am to 11 pm from their terminal stations. On Dashami, October 20, the Blue Line will run from 1 pm to 10.30 pm, while the Green Line will operate from 1.30 pm to 10.30 pm.
The Metro has also announced separate schedules for the Yellow, Purple and Orange lines. On Panchami and Shashthi, the Yellow Line will run from 7.18 am to 9.20 pm, including five direct services between Jai Hind Bimanbandar and Shahid Khudiram. The Purple Line will operate from 6.40 am to 9.26 pm, while the Orange Line will run from 7.40 am to 8.45 pm.
For Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, Yellow Line services are scheduled from 3 pm to 10.53 pm. The Purple Line will operate from 3 pm to 10.55 pm from Saptami through Dashami. The Orange Line, however, will not operate from October 17 to October 21.
On Dashami, the Yellow Line will run from 3 pm to 9.38 pm. The schedules indicate that the Metro’s extended festival operations are concentrated on the corridors expected to handle the largest passenger volumes, while services on other lines will follow separate operating windows.
The revised timetable is intended to support movement during the peak Durga Puja period, when residents and visitors travel across Kolkata to visit puja installations. By extending Blue and Green line services into the early morning, the Metro is providing a structured alternative for return journeys after late-night movement.
Passengers using the network during the festival will need to account for different operating hours across lines. The Orange Line shutdown between October 17 and 21 and the earlier closing times on Dashami will be particularly relevant for commuters planning journeys that require interchanging between corridors. The published schedules from the Kolkata Metro office will determine the available services on each festival day.
