Hyderabad weather remained unusually hot and humid on Thursday, with temperatures reaching 35.3°C in Santoshnagar and Chintal as the southwest monsoon withdrew further from Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast dry weather across the state for the next three days, extending a spell that reduced afternoon activity across several city corridors.
Data collated by the Telangana Development Planning Society showed that Santoshnagar and Chintal recorded Hyderabad’s highest temperatures in the last 24 hours at 35.3°C. Malkajgiri and Saroornagar followed at 35.2°C. The city’s afternoon temperature stayed around 35°C, while hot and humid conditions continued to affect residents.
The heat was also evident across the rest of Telangana. Khammam recorded the state’s highest temperature on Wednesday at 37°C. Several other districts reported maximum temperatures between 36.5°C and 36.9°C, according to the report. These readings came as the weather department tracked the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the state.
The IMD-Hyderabad said the monsoon had withdrawn from the remaining parts of Maharashtra, some parts of Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Odisha, as well as Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Its withdrawal line over Telangana was reported to pass through Tandur, Vikarabad, Hyderabad, Jangaon and Bhupalpally.
The weather conditions were visible in the city’s daily movement patterns. Streets were largely short of their usual afternoon traffic, and several corridors that commonly experience congestion had little traffic around noon. The available report attributed the change to residents apparently preferring to remain indoors during the sweltering conditions.
The monsoon’s retreat marks a shift towards drier weather across the region, but the immediate forecast does not indicate relief from the heat. The IMD said conditions were becoming favourable for further withdrawal from parts of eastern India and the northern peninsula over the next three to four days. Dry weather is expected to continue across Telangana for the next three days.
