Zuperia Auto is targeting monthly sales of more than 3,000 electric three-wheelers by 2028, while preparing to enter the electric two-wheeler market and considering a manufacturing facility in south India as demand and its dealer network expand.

The company, formerly known as Lohia Auto Industries, currently sells about 600-700 electric three-wheelers a month and expects that figure to rise to 1,000-1,200 units by the end of the current financial year, Chief Executive Officer Ayush Lohia told the Times of India. The company has already sold more than 1,000 vehicles in the L5 electric three-wheeler category.

Zuperia Auto plans to support the growth through new products, a larger sales and service network and expansion into cities where electric three-wheeler adoption is still at an early stage. It currently has about 100 touchpoints across India and intends to increase that number to 130-140 by the end of FY27.

The company has a stronger presence in northern India but is now targeting four to five cities across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Chennai and Bengaluru are among the cities being considered for deeper market expansion. The move would place greater focus on southern urban markets, where electric three-wheelers have historically recorded lower penetration than in the North and East.

Zuperia currently has an installed annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles at its existing facility in Uttarakhand. This includes capacity for 40,000 electric three-wheelers and 60,000 electric two-wheelers. Lohia said the existing capacity would be adequate for the next one-and-a-half to two years, but the company could require a new unit if sales growth continues.

A decision on additional capacity is likely next year and would depend on demand and sales performance. “If we see further traction, we will have to come up with a new unit, somewhere in the South,” Lohia said, according to the Times of India.

The company expects the southern market to develop as major manufacturers increase their electric-vehicle presence in the region. Zuperia also expects a gradual shift from conventional e-rickshaws to L5 vehicles, which are generally designed for higher speeds and more developed vehicle specifications than low-speed electric rickshaws.

Alongside its electric three-wheeler expansion, Zuperia plans to re-enter the electric two-wheeler segment with both high-speed and low-speed products. The company previously sold low-speed electric two-wheelers in small numbers and plans to announce its new products shortly, with launches expected within about a year.

Zuperia is also consolidating its corporate structure. Vehicle sales are currently booked through a partnership firm and a private limited company, both of which have the required certification. The company is in the process of bringing the businesses under a single corporate entity and expects to announce the merger within the next year or so, Lohia said.
