Vijayawada police have prepared a 40-parking-lot traffic plan for the 2026 Dasara festivities at the Kanaka Durga temple, combining QR-code guidance, live occupancy information and automatic number plate recognition to manage the expected rush of devotees.
The arrangements are intended to prevent congestion, keep vehicles moving and provide visitors with more convenient access to the temple during the festival. Parking locations have been assigned specific numbers according to the routes used by vehicles approaching the temple.
The designated lots are spread across Vijayawada and nearby areas, including the city outskirts, Krishna Lanka, Ibrahimpatnam, Gollapudi, Bhavanipuram, the bus station vicinity and areas near the Kanaka Durga flyover. Basava Punnaiah Stadium has also been identified as a parking location.
The police plan to use QR codes to direct motorists to the designated parking areas. The ASTraM Citizen application will provide information on live parking occupancy, allowing visitors to check the availability of spaces before selecting a lot. Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology will monitor vehicles entering the 40 parking areas.
The plan also includes alternative routes for vehicles arriving from Guntur, Eluru, Hyderabad and Machilipatnam. These diversions are intended to distribute traffic across several approaches instead of allowing vehicles to accumulate on roads leading directly to the temple.
The traffic arrangements cover buses, private vehicles and other transport entering Vijayawada and proceeding towards the Kanaka Durga temple. The scale of the plan reflects the operational challenge of managing festival travel in a dense urban area, where parking demand, pedestrian movement and through-traffic converge around a major religious destination.
Devotees have been advised to park only in the designated areas and follow the prescribed diversions. The police have also asked motorists to cooperate with traffic personnel and use the QR codes and ASTraM Citizen application to identify suitable parking spaces.
The traffic plan will remain the basis for vehicle movement and parking management during the 2026 Dasara festivities, with police personnel deployed to regulate access and monitor vehicles at the designated locations.
