The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹5 crore for the 2026-27 financial year to strengthen the state Anti-Terrorist Squad’s counter-terror and bomb-disposal capabilities, including new explosive-detection equipment, protective suits and night-vision devices.
The approval, granted with the Governor’s sanction, covers specialised equipment for the ATS and special operations units. The procurement is intended to improve operational readiness when teams respond to security threats, explosives and covert surveillance requirements.
The largest allocation, ₹2.51 crore, will fund four explosive ordnance disposal bomb suits. The protective equipment is designed for personnel handling suspected explosives and other hazardous devices during bomb-disposal operations.
The government has also approved ₹1.25 crore for four handheld explosive-vapour detectors. These devices will be used to identify traces associated with explosives during security operations and investigations.
To support operations conducted in low-light conditions, the ATS will procure 18 night-vision monoculars at a cost of ₹81 lakh. The package also includes two non-linear junction detectors worth ₹32.8 lakh, which are used to locate electronic devices and components. Two bomb blankets, valued at ₹9.22 lakh, have also been approved.
Procurement will be carried out by the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters and the ATS headquarters in Lucknow. The allocation comes as the state focuses on strengthening specialised police units and their capacity to respond to terrorism-related threats.
The sanctioned package totals ₹5 crore and is scheduled for implementation during the 2026-27 financial year. The next step is the procurement of the approved equipment through the designated police and ATS headquarters.
