TP Solar Hits 1 GW Module Output at Tamil Nadu Plant

TP Solar produced 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells in the second quarter of FY27, marking a strong production quarter at its manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, the company said in a statement reported by The Hindu BusinessLine.

The solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power produced 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells during the first half of FY27, covering the April-September period. The company said the modules manufactured at the facility comply with Domestic Content Requirement norms and are approved under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers.

TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW cell and module manufacturing facility at a single location in Tirunelveli. The plant is one of India’s largest single-location solar manufacturing facilities, according to the company. Tata Power, through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd, has invested nearly Rs 4,300 crore in establishing the facility.

The production update comes as domestic manufacturing becomes an increasingly important part of India’s solar infrastructure supply chain. TP Solar said its facility produces modules using Made-in-India cells, including modules that meet Domestic Content Requirement norms. The plant is equipped with TOPCon and Mono PERC technologies, which the company identified as part of its manufacturing capability.

The company also said the facility uses artificial intelligence and machine-learning-driven systems and Automated Guided Vehicles. These systems are intended to support automated manufacturing and operational efficiency across the plant. The statement did not provide a breakdown of production by technology, customer or project allocation.

The Tirunelveli facility has also been highlighted for its workforce composition. Nearly 80 per cent of its employees are women, according to TP Solar. The company described this as part of its commitment to an inclusive workforce, alongside its focus on local solar cell and module production.

TP Solar said the facility supports Tata Power’s wider focus on indigenising the solar value chain and increasing self-sufficiency in solar cell and module manufacturing. The company also linked the plant’s local production capabilities to India’s objective of moving towards a net-zero carbon future. No additional delivery schedules or expansion milestones were provided in the statement.
