Thiruvananthapuram Police Make Drone Registration Mandatory

Drone registration in Thiruvananthapuram under new city police safety rules

The Thiruvananthapuram city police have made drone registration mandatory for existing operators and prospective buyers within city limits, requiring them to submit personal and device details to the police for public-safety and security monitoring.

Drone owners must provide their name, address and phone number, along with the manufacturer’s name, model and serial number of the device. The information can be submitted at the owner’s local police station or at the City Special Branch office functioning under the city police commissioner.

The direction applies to people who already operate drones in the city as well as those planning to purchase one. The police said the registration process is intended to help curb unauthorised drone operations and improve the ability of authorities to identify operators when required.

Drones are increasingly being used in Thiruvananthapuram for photography, videography, commercial assignments and personal purposes. The police said maintaining a registry would strengthen security monitoring as the number of civilian and professional drone users grows across the city.

The requirement places the responsibility on operators to link their identity with the specific device they use. Recording the manufacturer, model and serial number will allow the police to distinguish between registered equipment and unidentified drones during investigations or security-related checks, according to the purpose outlined by the department.

Owners seeking assistance with the registration process can contact the City Special Branch at 9497975050 or 04712321399. The police have directed both existing users and new purchasers to submit the required information through the designated police channels.
