Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGNPDCL) has received the 14th Innovation with Impact Award for DISCOMs for using digital systems and advanced technologies to improve electricity distribution reliability and consumer services across its network.
The award was presented during the 20th India Energy Summit organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi. TGNPDCL Company Secretary K. Venkatesham received it on behalf of the distribution company. The award was subsequently presented to TGNPDCL chairman and managing director Karnati Varun Reddy at the company’s corporate headquarters in Nakkalagutta, Hanamkonda, on Saturday.
The recognition cited TGNPDCL’s initiatives to improve the quality, reliability and efficiency of power distribution. Speaking at the company’s headquarters, Varun Reddy said the discom was extensively adopting advanced technologies across its distribution network to improve supply quality and respond more effectively to consumer needs.
A key part of the company’s current approach is the Real-Time Feeder Monitoring System, or RTFMS, which enables electricity feeders to be monitored continuously. TGNPDCL is also using supervisory control and data acquisition systems to assess feeder load conditions and support faster responses to power interruptions.
The company said these systems are intended to help identify faults more quickly, restore electricity supply promptly and improve the monitoring of field-level operations. Other technologies being deployed include Fault Passage Indicators, digital monitoring systems, drone-based inspections, Geographic Information System mapping and Automatic Meter Reading.
TGNPDCL is also using artificial intelligence-powered chatbots and digital grievance-redressal systems for consumer services. According to the company, these systems are designed to simplify service access, provide real-time information and improve the handling of consumer complaints.
The award comes as the company reports growth in renewable-energy capacity connected to its distribution system. Installed renewable-energy capacity increased from 1,784 MW in 2024–25 to 2,126 MW in 2025–26, according to figures cited by the CMD.
Rooftop solar capacity recorded a sharper increase during the same period, rising from 80.17 MW in 2024–25 to 143.92 MW in 2025–26. TGNPDCL said this represented growth of approximately 79.5 per cent over the previous year.
The discom said it was encouraging solar adoption, expanding rooftop installations and using information-technology systems to streamline application processing. The stated objective is to promote wider renewable-energy utilisation while improving the efficiency of consumer-facing services.
Varun Reddy said TGNPDCL was working to provide round-the-clock power supply, respond promptly to complaints and reduce the duration of interruptions. The company also said its technology deployment was aimed at improving maintenance efficiency and strengthening consumer satisfaction across its service area.
