Telangana Voter Hearings Lapse for 6.70 Lakh Electors

Telangana voter hearings notice and electoral roll verification in Hyderabad

More than 6.70 lakh electors in Telangana have missed hearings under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, placing their inclusion in the final voter list at risk unless they respond to notices by November 5. Hyderabad recorded the highest number of lapsed hearings, according to data from the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (TG CEO).

Hearing dates had lapsed for 6,70,299 electors as of Tuesday, with Hyderabad accounting for 1,50,260 cases. Rangareddy recorded 1,02,182 lapsed hearings, followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri with 78,301. The figures cover electors whose details required verification during the revision exercise.

A further 15,281 electors who had rescheduled their hearings after missing their original appointments also failed to attend. Hanamkonda recorded the highest number of missed rescheduled hearings at 5,092, followed by Nizamabad with 2,572, Hyderabad with 1,942, Rangareddy with 1,155 and Medchal-Malkajgiri with 1,014.

Before the SIR exercise began, Telangana had 3,38,26,448 voters. During the enumeration phase, 2,64,87,213 electors submitted forms, while 73,39,235 were placed in the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) category.

The Election Commission of India flagged logical discrepancies or a lack of mapping with the SIR 2002 list for 92,88,188 electors who had submitted enumeration forms. It generated 92,88,187 notices seeking verification of documents before the electors could be included in the final roll. Of these notices, 92,44,446 had been delivered as of Tuesday.

Hearings had been completed for 86,02,606 electors, while 78,87,352 had been marked for inclusion in the final voter list. The data indicates that the verification exercise is particularly significant in Telangana’s major urban districts, where large electorates include residents who may have moved, changed addresses or have records that do not map to the 2002 list.

In Medchal-Malkajgiri, 9,07,405 of the 10,71,566 electors flagged as not mapped with the SIR 2002 list had been marked for inclusion in the final roll. Hyderabad had 19,41,444 unmapped voters, of whom 4,39,151 had been marked for inclusion. In Rangareddy, 5,35,467 of the 12,87,091 unmapped electors had been marked for inclusion.

Electors who receive notices must respond by November 5 to retain their voting rights. Those who do not appear for hearings before the deadline will be categorised under ASDD, and their names will be excluded from the final rolls scheduled for publication on November 9.

Electors left out of the final rolls can submit Form 6 to seek inclusion. The same process is available to young people who have attained the age of 18 and are eligible to register as voters.
