Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) has urged domestic electricity consumers to install rooftop solar systems, with eligible households able to receive a Central subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The distribution company has also introduced measures intended to simplify approvals, inspections and net-metering for consumers in its service area.
Under the scheme, eligible domestic consumers can receive financial assistance of Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kWp and Rs 18,000 for the additional 1 kWp. The maximum Central subsidy is capped at Rs 78,000 for a 3 kWp system, with no additional Central assistance available for capacity above 3 kWp.
Consumers must meet the scheme’s eligibility criteria and technical standards. Installations must also comply with the Domestic Content Requirement, which requires the use of solar modules manufactured with domestically produced solar cells.
Applications can be submitted through the official PM Surya Ghar portal. Consumers must register using their mobile number and electricity connection details, select the relevant distribution company and submit an application. After receiving the required approvals, they must use a vendor registered under the scheme to install the system.
The process then requires net-metering, inspection and commissioning procedures. Once eligibility is verified and the prescribed formalities are completed, the subsidy will be credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank account according to the scheme guidelines.
TGSPDCL said it has integrated its portal with PM Surya Ghar Portal 2.0. The company has also implemented exemptions from technical feasibility studies for systems of up to 10 kWp and automatic load enhancement in accordance with applicable provisions. Inspection procedures have been streamlined, while load enhancement charges can be collected through subsequent electricity bills.
For applications registered between June 22, 2026 and March 31, 2027, an application-fee exemption is available for systems of up to 10 kWp, subject to applicable conditions. TGSPDCL has also implemented applicable exemptions from submitting certain prescribed documents, including the net-metering agreement.
Financial assistance is additionally available, subject to scheme guidelines, to Group Housing Societies and Resident Welfare Associations for rooftop solar systems serving common facilities, including electric vehicle charging. Assistance is set at Rs 18,000 per kW for capacities up to 500 kWp, subject to the prescribed limit of 3 kWp per household.
TGSPDCL’s data as of October 9 showed 44,662 registrations under PM Surya Ghar, with 29,816 systems installed and a combined capacity of 125.613 MW. Across net-metering, PM Surya Ghar, the Model Solar Village programme and PM-KUSUM Component-A, the distribution company recorded 79,976 registrations, 62,818 installations and total capacity of 831.872 MW.
TGSPDCL also said it holds monthly meetings with solar vendors, the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation and REC officials on the first Wednesday of every month to review implementation and resolve operational issues. TGSPDCL CMD Jitesh V. Patil urged eligible consumers to use the subsidy and adopt rooftop solar to reduce electricity expenses and support clean-energy use.
