Telangana Plans MSME Centre to Boost Technology and Markets

Telangana plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to help businesses adopt modern technology, access investment and expand into national and international markets, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said on Saturday.

The proposed centre will focus on technology adoption, market access and investment linkages, with an emphasis on promoting products made in Telangana. The minister announced the plan while inaugurating the LUB MSME South India Summit, organised by Laghu Udyog Bharati (Telangana) at Taj Deccan in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad.

Sridhar Babu said MSMEs played a vital role in the state’s industrial development and supported the livelihoods of millions of families. The proposed institution is intended to provide a more structured support system for small businesses as they seek to improve production, compete in wider markets and connect with investors.

The minister also said the state government had introduced a dedicated MSME policy to strengthen the sector and improve institutional support for small businesses. The announcement did not specify the proposed centre’s location, investment, operating structure or timeline for becoming operational.

Alongside the Centre of Excellence, the government is planning to organise a monthly MSME Grievance Day. The proposed initiative is intended to provide a regular platform for businesses to raise concerns and facilitate their resolution. Details on the department or agency that will coordinate the grievance mechanism were not provided in the announcement.

Sridhar Babu said steps were also being taken to improve industrial estates in Hyderabad and its outskirts. These estates provide locations for businesses and are part of the wider industrial support network around the city. The minister did not outline the specific estates covered, the nature of the planned improvements or the funding arrangements.

The focus on industrial estates links the announcement to the physical conditions under which MSMEs operate. For small businesses, access to technology, investment and markets is tied not only to policy support but also to the quality of the industrial areas in which production takes place. The statement, however, did not provide details on infrastructure upgrades or implementation milestones.

The minister urged MSMEs to concentrate on product quality, technology adoption, skill development and production capacity to remain competitive. These priorities formed part of the government’s message at the summit as it outlined measures intended to help businesses expand their reach.

The next steps are expected to involve detailing the structure and functions of the proposed Centre of Excellence, along with the arrangements for the monthly MSME Grievance Day and improvements to industrial estates in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas.
