Telangana’s New Employees Health Scheme has approved cashless treatment for 15,395 cases worth ₹104.63 crore and expanded access to 919 empanelled hospitals, according to a government statement reported by Deccan Chronicle. The scheme covers government employees, pensioners and eligible family members.
The hospital network includes 778 private hospitals and 141 state-run facilities. The police department was brought under the scheme from September 1, the government said in its release.
The scheme is financed through a monthly contribution of 1.5 per cent of the basic pay or basic pension from employees and pensioners, matched by an equal contribution from the state government. Employee and pensioner contributions are estimated at ₹44 crore a month, while the government is contributing another ₹44 crore, taking the monthly fund to ₹88 crore. Funds for three months have been transferred to the trust, and the annual budget has been estimated at ₹1,056 crore.
The New Employees Health Scheme also provides outpatient services through wellness centres. Beneficiaries can access consultations, diagnostic tests and medicines without cash payments at these centres. Twelve wellness centres are currently functioning across 12 districts. Proposals have been prepared for 25 additional centres—21 in different districts and four in Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri. If approved and made operational, the total number of centres will rise to 37.
For inpatient care, the scheme is implementing 1,816 Central Government Health Scheme treatment packages. These packages include treatment, medicines, diagnostic tests, consumables, implants and follow-up medical services. In emergencies, beneficiaries can be admitted to the nearest empanelled hospital without a prior referral, although the details must be communicated to the trust within the prescribed period.
Officials have also clarified that eligible beneficiaries should not be denied treatment because they have not received a health card. Employees and pensioners can use their identification numbers to access services. As of September 28, health cards had been made available to 12,56,962 beneficiaries, of whom 7,56,210 had downloaded them.
The approved cases include 3,192 treatments for employees valued at ₹18.75 crore and 5,669 treatments for their family members valued at ₹39.52 crore. Among pensioners, 4,042 cases worth ₹29.27 crore were approved, along with 2,492 cases involving their family members valued at ₹17.08 crore. The government’s latest update also covers the scheme’s hospital network, funding arrangements and proposed expansion of outpatient access.
