Tata Motors-Stellantis Partnership Targets Vehicles for 50 Global Markets

Tata Motors Stellantis partnership linked to vehicle engineering and manufacturing in India

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd (TMPV), Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd (TPEM) and Stellantis India have signed a definitive agreement to collaborate on advanced vehicle technology and product development, with India-made vehicles intended for more than 50 global markets.

The agreement expands a partnership that has continued for more than two decades and follows a memorandum of understanding signed in February 2026. Under the new arrangement, TMPV will provide Stellantis access to its product technology and vehicle architecture, while Stellantis will use its engineering and product development capabilities in India to adapt vehicles for different customer, regulatory and operating requirements.

Vehicles developed under the agreement will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Pvt Ltd (FIAPL), a 50:50 joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis. The companies said the arrangement will combine Tata Motors’ vehicle technology with Stellantis’ global engineering, product development and market reach.

The partnership is structured around more than manufacturing alone. The February MoU had identified potential cooperation in manufacturing, engineering and supply chains in India and overseas. The definitive agreement now gives that broader intent a specific focus on vehicle technology and architecture, creating a formal framework for product collaboration.

Shailesh Chandra, managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the relationship had been built on “mutual trust and complementary strengths” and that the agreement reflected the competitiveness of TMPV’s technology and architecture capabilities. He said the companies would have an opportunity to create vehicles engineered and made in India for customers in India and other markets.

For India’s automotive manufacturing network, the announcement links domestic engineering capacity with a global distribution and market platform. The companies said the collaboration would use India’s engineering strengths and manufacturing scale to accelerate exports and strengthen the country’s position in the global production network. The supplied announcement does not specify the vehicle models, investment amount, production volumes or launch timelines under the agreement.

Tianshu Xin, chief operating officer of Stellantis’ Asia-Pacific region, said partnerships were central to the company’s approach in the region. He said combining Tata Motors’ capabilities in India with Stellantis’ product development and market reach would help develop competitive vehicles in India and expand export potential across international markets.

Stellantis operates a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and has a presence across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The agreement’s next implementation milestones, including product announcements and production schedules, were not disclosed in the statement.
