SUN Mobility has appointed Satish Sundaresan as its CEO, while Kamaldeep Singh has been named CEO of Indofast Energy, the 50:50 joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and SUN Mobility. The leadership changes come as the electric-vehicle energy infrastructure player prepares to scale battery swapping, manufacturing and energy-platform operations.
Sundaresan will lead SUN Mobility’s engineering, manufacturing operations and global sourcing functions. His responsibilities will include overseeing the delivery of Smart Batteries and Quick Interchange Stations (QIS) to Indofast Energy in India, as well as supporting SUN Mobility’s international businesses.
He will also oversee manufacturing excellence, capacity expansion and supply resilience, according to the report by The Hindu BusinessLine. His remit includes the company’s technology roadmap, including open-architecture product innovation, as SUN Mobility prepares for its next phase of growth and new business lines.
Singh, in his role at Indofast Energy, will lead the company’s next growth phase and work on expanding its nationwide battery-swapping network. He will also be responsible for building what the company describes as a high-performance and economically sustainable operating platform.
The appointments place two separate but closely linked responsibilities within the group. SUN Mobility’s work covers the engineering, production and sourcing of the batteries and swapping stations, while Indofast Energy is responsible for scaling the operating network that uses this infrastructure. The arrangement links equipment delivery with the expansion of a distributed energy service for electric vehicles.
Battery swapping is designed to reduce the time vehicles spend waiting for energy replenishment by allowing a depleted battery to be exchanged for a charged unit. In the model outlined in the report, Quick Interchange Stations and Smart Batteries form the physical infrastructure, while the operating network determines how widely and consistently the service can be accessed.
The leadership changes therefore cover both sides of that system: the supply and technology platform under Sundaresan, and the network expansion and business operations under Singh. The company’s stated priorities include capacity expansion, supply resilience, manufacturing execution and stronger operating economics.
Singh brings more than two decades of experience in profit-and-loss leadership, consumer businesses and large-scale distributed operations. He previously served as CEO of Big Bazaar and DealShare. SUN Mobility said his experience includes scaling complex networks, driving execution discipline and building strong unit economics.
For urban electric mobility, the appointments point to an effort to develop energy infrastructure alongside vehicle adoption. The report does not provide details of the number of existing swapping stations, the timeline for the planned expansion, or the cities that will be prioritised. It also does not disclose financial targets or additional details of the new business lines.
The next phase will consequently depend on how the two businesses translate the leadership mandate into manufacturing capacity, battery and station availability, network coverage and economically sustainable operations. Sundaresan will oversee the technology and supply-side platform, while Singh will lead Indofast Energy’s nationwide network expansion.
