Subhashgram Bus Service Demand Returns With Rail Capacity Push

Subhashgram bus service demand and suburban rail connectivity proposals in South 24 Parganas

The seventh conference of the Subhashgram Mitra Parishad in South 24 Parganas has renewed demands for a direct bus service to Howrah and longer suburban trains between Baruipur and Sealdah, placing local connectivity and public-service access at the centre of a newly formed 31-member committee’s agenda.

The conference and election were held at Vivekananda Vidyaniketan in Subhashgram. The programme began with the hoisting of the parishad’s flag by local social worker and senior member Lal Bahadur Chaudhary. Founder and chief patron Rama Shankar Prasad inaugurated the conference and said the organisation would continue its work around social service, peace, progress and the preservation of culture.

Among the proposals adopted at the meeting was a demand for a bus service connecting Subhashgram with Sealdah, Dalhousie and Howrah. According to the parishad, the demand has been raised since 2012. The proposed route would link a suburban locality with major rail and employment centres in central Kolkata and Howrah, although the report does not specify the proposed operator, route length, frequency or the authority to which the demand has been formally submitted.

The parishad also renewed its demand for 16-coach local trains between Baruipur and Sealdah instead of the existing 12-coach services. It said the demand had been made since 2015 and that the Railway Minister had already announced the operation of 16-coach local trains. The report does not state when such services would begin, how many trains would be upgraded or whether infrastructure at the relevant stations is ready for the longer formations.

Education access was another issue raised at the conference. Members unanimously adopted a proposal seeking the reopening of Satkari Bang Hindi F.P. School. The parishad said the school received government permission in 2013 following its efforts and began operating in 2017, but closed during the Covid-19 period. The conference called for steps to restart the institution, though no reopening date or official decision was reported.

The meeting also included the presentation of an organisational report by general secretary Anil Kumar Mishra. Several former office-bearers and members spoke on the report and the proposals, while education and community representatives attended the event. The conference was chaired by Sameer Kumar Mandal, secretary of Vivekananda Vidyaniketan and an educationist.

At the conclusion, a new executive committee was formed unanimously for a three-year term under the supervision of the parishad’s founder. Anil Kumar Mishra was elected president and Raj Kumar Sah general secretary. The report does not record responses from the Railways, transport authorities or the education department on the demands adopted at the conference.
