Srikakulam Beach Tragedy: Two Drown, Two Missing in Tide

Ganagallavanipet beach in Srikakulam linked to a family drowning and missing-person search

Two members of a family drowned and two others went missing after they were swept away by the tide at Ganagallavanipet beach in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, according to police and a report by Deccan Chronicle.

The four people had entered the water at the beach to spend time together when they were suddenly carried away by the tide. The two people who drowned were identified as Pavani and Madhavi.

The other two members of the family remained untraceable after the incident. Expert swimmers were searching the area for the missing persons, the report said.

Police said the victims belonged to Ramabhadrapuram in neighbouring Vizianagaram district. The report did not provide further details about the victims’ ages, the exact time of the incident or the circumstances under which the family entered the water.

The incident places attention on the immediate risks faced by visitors at beaches where tides and changing water conditions can quickly overwhelm people in the sea. The available account does not specify whether warning signs, lifeguards, barricades or other safety arrangements were present at Ganagallavanipet beach at the time.

Search operations for the two missing people were under way with the assistance of expert swimmers. Police and rescue teams had not, according to the report, announced any further recovery or identification details by the time of publication.
