The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) has suspended regular academic activities for its Film and Electronic and Digital Media wings until November 13 and ordered students to vacate hostels and campus premises within 24 hours, citing administrative needs and the festive period. The order, issued on behalf of vice chancellor Santosh Ajmera, also suspended hostel mess services and warned of disciplinary or legal actions for violations.
Students expressed concerns over the short notice, campus safety, disciplinary proceedings, and stoppage of shuttle bus services. Some students allege caste-based targeting and unfair disciplinary actions, which the administration denies, citing facts and Dean’s Council recommendations.
Regular academic activities are suspended until November 13, while the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation programme will continue under specific instructions. The vice chancellor emphasized that vandalism and intimidation are unacceptable, and an inquiry will investigate the incidents.
