Seelampur Park Murder Raises Security Questions Near Police Station

Seelampur park murder investigation near a Delhi police station

A 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a municipal park opposite Seelampur police station in east Delhi on Tuesday night, with police apprehending six people, including two juveniles, in connection with the case.

The victim, identified as Subhan, a resident of Noor-e-Ilahi, suffered 11 stab injuries, according to the report. Police initially registered a case under sections related to attempt to murder, but added the murder charge after Subhan died during treatment.

The incident took place at around 8 pm after Subhan closed the clothing shop near the park where he had worked for several years. He was sitting in the park with his friend Mohsin when an argument allegedly began over smoking. Mohsin told police that five or six youths objected to the pair smoking, after which the dispute escalated and Subhan was attacked with a knife.

Subhan was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital before being referred to JPCH and then to GTB Hospital because of the severity of his injuries. He died during treatment. Police began investigating after receiving information from the hospital.

The six people apprehended have been identified in the report as Aman Khan alias Arshu, 21; Afzal Khan, 18; Abdul Momin, 18; Shoaib Mirza, 18; and two juveniles aged around 17. Police are examining the circumstances of the attack and have recovered the knife allegedly used in the incident, along with clothes the accused were wearing at the time.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from cameras around the area and collected other evidence before making the apprehensions. Police are also examining whether the assault was connected to an earlier enmity, alongside the reported dispute over smoking.

The location has brought the management and surveillance of public spaces into focus. The park is described as being directly opposite Seelampur police station, but the report says it did not have a security guard on duty. The circumstances have raised questions about visibility, access control and response arrangements in a municipal park located next to a police facility.

The police investigation is continuing, and the case will proceed under the murder charge following Subhan’s death. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the next procedural steps in the case.
