A major fire broke out at Singhal Industries Private Limited in Motibhoyan near Santej in Kalol taluka on Saturday, prompting workers and employees to rush out of the factory as firefighters from several stations battled the blaze. No casualties were reported, but the fire remained uncontrolled until 7 pm, according to officials cited by Nav Gujarat Samay.
The factory contained foam sheets, which caused the fire to spread rapidly and assume a severe form. Thick black smoke was visible as far as Kalol, indicating the scale of the blaze and complicating the emergency response around the industrial premises.
Kalol Fire Brigade in-charge fire officer Aslam Chauhan said a major call was declared after the incident was reported. Three fire vehicles from Kalol, two from Kadi and two Gajaraj vehicles from Gandhinagar were deployed initially. Additional fire vehicles were later called from Mansa, Ahmedabad and Vadsar to support firefighting operations.
Workers and other employees present at the factory ran outside immediately after the fire started. Officials, including the mamlatdar, reached the site as fire crews worked to contain the flames. The incident required coordination between fire services from multiple locations, reflecting the scale of the emergency and the need for additional equipment and personnel beyond the local station.
Police also responded after receiving information about the fire. Santej police station inspector S. R. Chaudhary said a police team was sent to the location immediately after the incident was reported. The police response was carried out alongside the firefighting operation and the arrival of local administrative officials.
The fire’s exact cause had not been established when the report was published. Inspector Chaudhary said assistance from the Forensic Science Laboratory would be sought to determine how the fire began. The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances inside the factory and the factors that may have enabled the blaze to spread quickly through the foam-sheet material.
The incident highlights the operational demands placed on fire services when an industrial fire involves combustible materials and requires support from several municipal and district stations. While officials reported that everyone at the factory escaped and no deaths occurred, the fire continued for several hours, with emergency crews remaining engaged at the site.
The next official step is the forensic examination to establish the cause of the fire. Fire and police authorities had not announced any further findings or casualty reports by the time of publication.
