SAIL Pellet Plant Order Gives SEPC ₹854 Crore Growth Push

The SAIL pellet plant order worth ₹854.57 crore has given engineering solutions provider SEPC a major project at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal, with the contract covering the pellet plant’s balance-of-plant package, including civil and structural works.

SEPC said in a statement on Saturday that the contract was formally signed on October 8, 2026, with steel major Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL). The project will be executed at SAIL’s plant in Burnpur, an industrial location in West Bengal.

The contract covers the balance-of-plant, or BOP, component of the pellet plant. According to SEPC, the scope includes civil and structural works, placing the project within the construction and engineering activities required to support the facility.

The order adds to SEPC’s work across power, water infrastructure and process and metallurgy solutions. The company describes itself as an engineering solutions provider focused on turnkey projects in these areas, where delivery typically involves coordinating multiple technical and construction packages.

SEPC also said its consolidated order book has crossed the ₹10,000-crore mark. The company did not provide further details in the supplied statement on the project’s completion schedule, expected employment, production capacity, financing arrangements or the specific value assigned to the civil and structural components.

The Burnpur project links a large engineering contract with the continuing industrial infrastructure requirements of a steel plant. Pellet plants form part of the material-handling and production ecosystem associated with steelmaking, while the balance-of-plant works provide the supporting civil, structural and related infrastructure needed for the facility.

The announcement therefore has significance beyond SEPC’s order intake: it identifies a substantial construction package at one of SAIL’s steel facilities and underlines the role of specialised engineering firms in executing industrial projects. However, the available announcement does not set out the project’s broader operational impact or any changes to the plant’s production plans.

SEPC’s immediate stated milestone is the execution of the contract signed with SAIL. Further information on implementation timelines and project commissioning will depend on subsequent disclosures by the company or the steel major.
