Rohtak Road Re-carpeting Ordered After Delhi PWD Inspection

Rohtak Road re-carpeting work ordered after a Delhi PWD inspection of roads and drains.

Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh has ordered the re-carpeting of Rohtak Road in Outer Delhi after a multi-agency inspection of roads, flyovers and drainage points across Central and West Delhi. The inspection also led to directions for improving lighting and cleanliness beneath the Rani Jhansi Flyover and desilting drains at Zakhira.

The directions were issued during a ‘Government on Wheels’ inspection in which officials from the PWD, Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation & Flood Control department, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, district administrations and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi travelled together on a single bus. The teams stopped at multiple locations to assess complaints and assign responsibility on the spot, according to a report by Millennium Post – Delhi.

The route began at Panchkuian Road and covered Rani Jhansi Road, Idgah Road, the Rani Jhansi Flyover and the area beneath it. The inspection then moved along Rohtak Road, New Rohtak Road, Zakhira, the Karampura Flyover, Patel Road and Shadipur before ending at Shankar Road.

At Rohtak Road, the minister ordered re-carpeting of the road connecting Outer Delhi with Rohtak. The report did not specify the length of the stretch, the condition assessment that prompted the order, the estimated cost or a completion deadline.

The inspection also focused on the area beneath the Rani Jhansi Flyover, where directions were issued for an overhaul of lighting and cleanliness. At Zakhira, the Irrigation & Flood Control and civic agencies were directed to address drain desilting. These locations bring together road maintenance, public lighting, sanitation and storm-water management responsibilities handled by different departments and agencies.

Shopkeepers, commuters and residents raised concerns directly with the minister at several stops along the route. Their interaction with the visiting officials formed part of the inspection process, although the report did not detail the individual complaints or identify the specific agencies assigned to each one.

The participation of the PWD, Delhi Jal Board, Irrigation & Flood Control department, DMRC, district magistrates and MCD officials was intended to allow problems to be reviewed jointly rather than referred separately between departments. The report said responsibility was fixed at the locations during the inspection.

The next steps are the execution of the road re-carpeting, lighting and cleanliness work, along with drain desilting at Zakhira. The supplied report does not state when the works will begin or when the departments are expected to complete them.
