Rajasthan Crime Data Shows Sharp Drop in Rape, Robbery Cases

Rajasthan crime data shown through a police control room monitoring public safety operations

Rajasthan recorded fewer cases of rape, molestation, murder, attempted murder, robbery, dacoity and burglary in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, while cases registered under narcotics, arms and excise laws increased, according to figures reported by the Times of India.

Rape cases fell by 356 to 4,146 between January and September, from 4,502 in the corresponding period last year. Cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act declined by 478, from 2,490 to 2,012. Molestation cases dropped by 603, from 8,172 to 7,569.

The figures also showed a smaller decline in murder cases, which fell from 1,029 to 1,006. Attempted murder cases decreased from 1,878 to 1,704. Robbery cases dropped from 803 to 673, while dacoity cases declined from 61 to 49. Burglary cases fell by 216, from 4,662 to 4,446.

The largest increase was recorded in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. These rose by 35%, from 5,166 to 6,981, an increase of 1,815 cases. Police attributed the rise to sustained action against drug traffickers and gangs.

Cases registered under the Arms Act increased from 5,290 to 5,828 during the period. Registrations under the Rajasthan Excise Act also rose, from 18,441 to 19,349. Cases filed under local and special laws increased by 4,282, from 65,753 to 70,035.

The figures present two different aspects of policing in Rajasthan. Registrations for several serious offences declined, while cases linked to enforcement against narcotics, illegal arms and excise-related violations increased. The data therefore reflects both reported crime levels and the intensity of police action under specific laws.

The figures do not, by themselves, establish whether the decline in offences resulted from lower incidence, changes in reporting behaviour, investigation practices or other factors. Similarly, the rise in NDPS, arms and excise cases indicates increased registrations but does not quantify the volume of drugs, weapons or illicit liquor seized.

The data covers the first nine months of 2026 and compares them with the corresponding period of the previous year. Further details on district-level variations, arrests, convictions, seizures and case outcomes were not included in the figures reported by the Times of India.
