PVNR Expressway Accident Triggers Six-Vehicle Pile-Up Near Pillar 131

Traffic congestion after a PVNR Expressway accident in Hyderabad

A PVNR Expressway accident near Pillar No. 131 in Hyderabad triggered a six-vehicle pile-up on Thursday night, bringing traffic towards Aramgarh to a standstill for about 45 minutes. No injuries were reported, according to the traffic police.

The accident occurred at around 10.45 pm when an electric vehicle travelling towards Aramgarh lost control and crashed into a road divider. Five cars following behind subsequently collided with one another in a chain-reaction crash, the Times of India reported.

The location is on the PVNR Expressway, a key route for traffic travelling towards Aramgarh and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The collision temporarily affected vehicles using the expressway in that direction, with traffic movement slowing significantly after the crash.

Rajendranagar traffic police reached the spot after the accident and worked to clear the damaged vehicles and restore traffic flow. Police took nearly 45 minutes to remove the obstruction and ease the congestion, according to the report.

The traffic police also issued an advisory on social media during the disruption. “An accident has been reported near Pillar No. 131 on PVNR Expressway towards Aramghar. Commuters are requested to proceed with caution and follow traffic personnel’s instructions,” the advisory said.

A second police update warned motorists that vehicular movement towards Aramgarh was slow and asked commuters to plan their travel accordingly. The advisory specifically sought to alert passengers travelling towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, where delays on the expressway can affect time-sensitive journeys.

Rajendranagar traffic inspector R Venkatesh said police had not received a formal complaint about the accident at the time of the report. “We have not received any complaint so far. We have contacted the vehicle owners and asked them to submit complaints,” Venkatesh told the Times of India.

The incident involved six vehicles but did not result in reported injuries. The police account attributes the initial crash to the EV driver losing control before the vehicle struck the divider. The subsequent collisions occurred as vehicles travelling behind it encountered the obstruction.

The accident highlights the operational importance of rapid clearance on elevated and high-speed urban corridors, where a single disabled vehicle can quickly restrict traffic movement across the carriageway. In this case, police intervention restored normal movement after approximately 45 minutes. Further formal complaints from the vehicle owners, if submitted, will determine the next procedural steps in the case.
