The land acquisition process for Pune’s proposed Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport is set to move into its compulsory phase after the consent deadline for farmers in Purandar ended on October 10, with the district administration ruling out any extension.
Officials said landowners who have not given consent by the deadline will face compulsory acquisition proceedings. The administration has obtained consent for approximately 97% of the 1,216 hectares required for the airport project, while consent for the remaining land is still pending.
The outstanding parcels are estimated to cover around 40 hectares. The pending land is spread across seven villages in Purandar taluka: Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Khanwadi, Pargaon, Udachiwadi and Munjwadi.
The proposed airport is officially referred to as the Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje International Airport. Its land requirement covers a substantial area across the seven villages, making the acquisition process a key administrative step in advancing Pune’s planned second airport project.
The district administration’s decision not to extend the consent deadline places the remaining landowners at the centre of the next stage of the process. While most of the required land has received consent, the unresolved parcels must now be addressed through compulsory acquisition, according to officials cited in the report.
The figures indicate that the administration has secured agreement for the large majority of the required land, but the remaining parcels could still affect the continuity of the acquisition process. The approximately 40 hectares yet to be secured represent a small share of the total requirement, but are located within the project area identified across Purandar taluka.
For residents and landowners in Vanpuri, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Khanwadi, Pargaon, Udachiwadi and Munjwadi, the end of the consent window marks a shift from voluntary agreement to compulsory acquisition for land that remains pending. The administration has not announced any further extension to the deadline.
The immediate next step is the start of compulsory acquisition for land whose owners have not provided consent. Further progress on the airport will depend on how the district administration completes acquisition of the remaining parcels within the identified project area.
