Pune district administration will hold special voter registration camps at every polling station on October 17, 18, 24 and 25, giving residents an opportunity to check the draft electoral roll, register as voters and correct errors before the October 26 deadline for claims and objections.
District election officer Jitendra Dudi said the exercise is intended to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll. Booth-level officers will be available at polling stations during the four-day drive to assist citizens with new registrations, corrections and other electoral roll-related procedures.
The administration will deploy 21 electoral registration officers, 647 assistant electoral registration officers and 8,424 booth-level officers across the district. The scale of the deployment is designed to take the verification process closer to residents rather than requiring every applicant to depend only on district-level offices.
Residents can check their names and personal details in the draft electoral roll and submit claims or objections by October 26. Those who find that their names are missing, or that their details are incorrect, can submit the prescribed forms through the electoral registration process.
Form 6 is used for new voter registration. Form 7 is used to raise objections to entries or request deletion of names. Form 8 covers changes in residence, corrections to personal details, replacement of voter identity cards and registration as a person with a disability.
The administration has also clarified that eligible citizens can apply for voter registration throughout the year. The special camps, however, provide a concentrated opportunity for residents to receive assistance from booth-level officers and address problems identified in the draft roll before the current claims window closes.
For assistance or complaints, citizens can call the voter helpline at 1950 or approach help desks at the district election officer’s office or the office of the relevant electoral registration officer. Details of district-level helplines are available on the Maharashtra chief electoral officer’s website.
The four-day camp schedule and October 26 deadline make the immediate task for residents clear: verify their electoral roll details, submit the appropriate form where necessary and seek help from the designated election officials before the claims period ends.
