Pune Undri Road Crash Revives Calls for Long-Pending Reconstruction

Damaged Pune Undri Road near The Corinthians Club with traffic moving along cracked asphalt

A car overturned on Pune’s Undri Road near The Corinthians Club on Saturday morning, prompting residents to renew demands for urgent reconstruction of the stretch between Nyati Estate and Punekar Chowk. The incident has brought fresh attention to concerns about the road’s condition, traffic growth and the absence of a confirmed timeline for civic work.

Residents told Punekar News that the road surface has deteriorated, with multiple cracks visible along the stretch. They said routine repairs have not resolved the problem and urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to begin the reconstruction work that they say has already been assured by the civic administration.

The road serves a rapidly developing part of Undri, where the expansion of residential complexes and commercial establishments has increased traffic demand. Residents said infrastructure improvements have not kept pace with this growth, leaving commuters to negotiate a road that is carrying more traffic while its condition remains a concern.

The movement of heavy vehicles, including ready-mix concrete trucks and water tankers, has emerged as a further issue for people using the route. Residents have asked the PMC and Pune Traffic Police to take measures against speeding and other unsafe driving practices on the stretch. They have also alleged that some motorists use mobile phones while driving, which they say increases risks for other road users.

The circumstances that led to the car overturning were not established in the supplied report. However, the incident has intensified residents’ demand for action on the broader road-safety concerns they have raised. Their requests include reconstruction rather than repeated routine repairs, traffic management measures and enforcement against unsafe driving.

During an earlier visit to the area, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram had assured residents that the road would be reconstructed, according to the report. Residents are now seeking a definite project timeline and want the PMC to initiate the work without further delay.

They have also asked the civic body to prepare an effective traffic management plan before construction begins, so that commuters can continue to use the corridor with minimum disruption. The next step sought by residents is a clear schedule from the PMC for reconstruction of the stretch between Nyati Estate and Punekar Chowk.
