Pune traffic authorities are preparing diversions, a dedicated VIP corridor and additional security deployment as political leaders, film personalities and members of the public are expected to travel to Donaje near Khadakwasla for Nana Patekar’s last rites on Thursday evening.
The actor’s mortal remains are expected to reach Pune by air at around 6 pm after medical and legal procedures in Goa. The last rites are likely to take place at his farmhouse in Donaje between 9 pm and 10 pm, according to a report by Pune Mirror. The timing places the movement during a period when Sinhagad Road and adjoining routes routinely face heavy evening congestion.
Pune city and rural traffic police are coordinating arrangements to manage the expected movement of VIP vehicles and the public. A dedicated route for VIP convoys is being planned, while diversion options are being prepared to prevent traffic linked to the funeral from bringing regular vehicular movement to a standstill.
Additional police personnel are expected to be deployed at locations along the route. The arrangements are intended to manage the movement from Pune airport towards Donaje, as well as the gathering of fans and members of the public who may assemble to pay their respects.
The pressure on the road network is expected to be concentrated around the Sinhagad Road corridor and routes leading towards Donaje. The area near Khadakwasla is likely to see a combination of private vehicles, official convoys and local traffic during the evening. Authorities are therefore working on route management and diversion plans before the arrival of the remains.
Venue arrangements are also being made at Donaje by the Public Works Department and local authorities. These preparations include managing the site where the last rites are expected to be held and accommodating the possibility of a large public turnout.
The actor’s post-mortem was underway at Goa Medical College after his son reached the state and completed the required formalities, the report said. Once the procedure is completed, the mortal remains are expected to be kept briefly at the hospital so that people close to him can pay their respects.
The remains are then expected to be taken to Mopa airport for the journey to Pune. After arriving at Pune airport at approximately 6 pm, the final journey to Donaje will take place under heightened security and coordinated traffic arrangements.
The traffic police have not indicated a final public diversion schedule in the supplied report. Authorities are continuing to coordinate the movement plan, with the evening peak, VIP travel and expected public turnout identified as the main factors likely to affect traffic on Sinhagad Road and adjoining routes.
