Pune traffic authorities are preparing diversions, additional deployments and a dedicated VIP corridor for the expected movement of political leaders, film personalities and members of the public to Nana Patekar’s last rites at Donaje near Khadakwasla on Thursday evening.
The actor’s mortal remains are expected to reach Pune airport by around 6 pm after the completion of medical and legal procedures in Goa. The final rites are likely to take place at his farmhouse in Donaje between 9 pm and 10 pm, according to a report by Pune Mirror.
The timing is expected to put pressure on the Sinhagad Road corridor, which already experiences heavy congestion during peak hours. Traffic police from Pune city and rural jurisdictions are coordinating arrangements to manage VIP convoys, funeral-related traffic and the possibility of fans gathering along the route.
Authorities are planning a dedicated route for VIP vehicles and diversion options to prevent traffic linked to the funeral from bringing regular movement to a standstill. Additional police personnel are being deployed at locations along the route, although the specific diversion roads and traffic restrictions had not been detailed in the report.
The arrangements highlight the operational difficulty of managing a large public gathering on a corridor that serves daily commuters travelling towards Khadakwasla, Sinhagad Road and adjoining areas. Evening traffic, airport movement and convoys travelling towards Donaje are expected to converge within a limited time window.
The Public Works Department and local authorities are also preparing the Donaje venue. The administration is planning for the possibility that a large number of fans and members of the public may arrive to pay their final respects, requiring coordination between traffic personnel, local officials and security teams.
Patekar’s post-mortem was underway at Goa Medical College after his son arrived in the state and completed the necessary formalities. The remains were expected to be kept briefly at the hospital after the medical examination so that people close to him could pay their respects before being transported to Mopa airport.
From Pune airport, the final journey to Donaje is expected to take place under heightened security. Traffic authorities are continuing to coordinate the movement plan, with the final arrangements focused on managing VIP travel, public access and regular traffic on Sinhagad Road and adjoining routes.
